MUSIC MEME
1. The person who passed the baton to you.
Wendi, The Happy Booker. I think she’s been waiting for this brief moment of blogging on my end.
2. Total volume of music files on your computer.
None. I am a complete technological idiot. A radio commercial the other day caught my attention – one of the satellite tv companies is offering four receivers, two DVD Recorders, and two Hi-Definition Receivers when you sign up with them and boot cable from your home. I realized I had taken a monster step back in time as I wouldn’t be able to use any of the free stuff but the plain receivers. The DVD Recorders would be nice, but what would I play the resulting DVD’s on?
3. The title and artist of the last CD you bought.
If I hold off another 12 hours I can say “Get Behind Me Satan” by the White Stripes. Instead, I think it might just be Breaking Benjamin’s last album, "We are Not Alone" (by the way, their guitarist is the son of poet and excellent short story writer Gary Fincke).
4. Song playing at the moment of writing.
Pretty Girl by Nellie Bly
5. Five songs you have been listening to of late (or all-time favorites, or particularly personally meaningful songs)
I’ll go with:
Loop de Loop – Strange Bedfellows, Snow Day – Nellie Bly, Awful Spill – Breech, Whisper to the Wind – Nellie Bly, Downstream – The Rainmakers
Significance? The first four songs are all by one of the best unsigned singer/songwriters the past decade has seen – Missy Gibson. Visit www.breech.net and look around, buy a few things while you’re there. The final song – while I still believe The Replacements and Paul Westerberg were the true geniuses of the mid to late 80’s in rock n’ roll, I’m stunned at how many people have no freaking clue who Bob Walkenhorst and/or The Rainmakers are.
. The five people to whom you will ‘pass the musical baton.’
As I’m only visiting here in Scott’s home, I’m going to be one of those idiots who pulls the plug on the fun and not throw this back out to the field. Apologies up front for that decision.
