In case you're wondering what David Mitchell's 2009 Booker-nominated novel will be about.
David Mitchell, who many thought should have been the winner of last year's Man Booker with Cloud Atlas, has signed a new two-book deal with Carole Welch of Sceptre. The first will be set two centuries ago on Deshima, an artificial island off the coast of Japan that became a Dutch trading colony and was for 200 years the sole link between Japan and Europe. Publication is planned for 2009 - but Mitchell fans can also look forward to a new novel next spring, Black Swan Green, a tale of lost innocence set in an English village in 1982.
It must be a nice feeling to know you'll be published through 2009.
Come on, Scott. Mitchell's got the chops. So there's no need for jealousy. :)

Ed,
What a surprise! How did I ever guess that you would comment on a Mitchell post?!

To paraphrase "Three Amigos," wherever there is discussion of David Mitchell, I'll be there. :)
